The Philadelphia 76ers are coming hot off the heels of a second-round exit in the playoffs.
What are they planning to do? Their actions during the 2022 NBA Draft may give us more of a clue.
On Thursday night, the Sixers found themselves outside the lottery with the 23rd pick. As the projected best picks in the 1st round winded down, the Sixers selected Colorado State guard David Roddy. The 6'5" 250-pound shooting guard is latest Mountain West Conference player of the year, with All-American honors from major news publications. Roddy averaged 19.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.1 blocks in 33 minutes per game this past season.

The Sixers then immediately used Roddy's stock as trade value for another asset.
The urgent trade involves Danny Green and David Roddy for Grizzlies guard De'Anthony Melton. De'Anthony Melton last season was an integral part of the Memphis Grizzlies success last season. As one of Memphis' ever-interchangeable bench players last season, the 24-year-old averaged a career high 10.8 points, 2.7 assists, 40% from the field and 37% from three-point land. He only started 15 games for the Grizzlies last season, but his role with Sixers may be larger.
De'Anthony Melton's 24 Point Outburst
The draft day trade isn't much a splash as Sixers fans were hoping for but does increase the Sixers chances for a championship during another playoff run.
De'Anthony Melton's talents can only help the Sixers' lack of scoring and defensive pressure coming from the bench. The "Grit n Grind" mentality was sorely missing from the Sixers in the Boston Celtics series. De'Anthony Melton may have to prove himself all over again for the Sixers. He is looking to make $8.25 million next season and $8 million in 2023-24. Maybe he could find a lasting home in Philly.
Losing the 35-year-old Danny Green isn't too bad considering he is recovering from his recently torn ACL and LCL in his left knee. Although prior to his injury, Green re-ignited his 3-point efficiency and impact on the court with 41% from three during the playoffs.
The Sixers still have many problems to manage this off-season.
From James Harden's opt-in to his massive contract to Sixers' owner Michael Rubin selling his shares to the team this week.
Not to mention the troll-ish playoff tweets from Joel Embiid.
