The purple and gold dynasty will continue to thrive on a screen near you.
If you are basketball fan who has been looking for more NBA content, especially knowing that your favorite NBA team has lost 10 of the last 15 games, HBO Max will be the destination for your needs. A trailer for Adam McKay's upcoming 1980s drama on the Showtime Lakers has just been dropped. Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty will be following the Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jerry Buss lead Los Angeles Lakers on and off the court.
The show is based off of Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers. John C. Reilly, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, Quincy Isaiah, Sally Field, Rob Morgan and Jason Segel are just a few of the stars to bring the "magic" to fruition. Super producer, Adam McKay is executive producing the show, McKay has previously produced or written for Step Brothers, Succession and Drunk History.

HBO: Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty
John C. Reilly as the ultra-rich and boisterous Lakers owner, Jerry Buss is an excellent choice. The amount of talent that is going to provide more context that special era of basketball is astounding. It was rumored that, long time collaborator of Adam McKay, Will Ferrell was supposed to play the part of Jerry Buss. McKay thought it was better that John C. Reilly should play the part. This decision ultimately ended McKay and Ferrell's 25-years of friendship. Ferrell was upset that McKay did not notify him that he was not getting the role in an appropriate time frame. McKay spoke to Vanity Fair about what ended a dynasty of his own.
With words like,
"...he’s not that vibe of a Jerry Buss."
"I should have called him and I didn’t. And Reilly did, of course, because Reilly, he’s a stand-up guy."
It seems like another Will Ferrell and Adam McKay film won't be in question for a while.
Nonetheless, people are already buzzing about the "LakeShow".

The Los Angeles Lakers didn't have to much of a problem thriving after winning 5 championships in the 80s. The third-most profitable team in the NBA, according to last year, has continued to strive in excellence. The Lakers were always a prominent and successful team in the NBA. Prior to Magic and Kareem getting there, the franchise had already won 6 championships.
BUT
The Showtime Lakers took the franchise to unforeseen and ridiculous heights. I can't wait to see untold stories unfold from that era of greatness and basketball.
Can you image a TV show on the Philadelphia 76ers current era of basketball?
A show that details the Sixers' "Process" era? MAN that would be special.
