Abimbola "Able" Osundairo Testifies Against Jussie Smollett (Unpublished)

Abimbola "Able" Osundairo has been brought up by the prosecution to testify against Jussie Smollett.

"Able" pleaded to the court that Jussie Smollett recruited him and his brother, Olabinjo "Ola" Osundairo, to stage a homophobic and racist attack on him in downtown Chicago almost three years ago. Able spoke inside Leighton Criminal Courthouse for four hours detailing the events that led to the alleged staged attack.

Abimbola told the jurors that Jussie planned a "dry run" and gifted them $100 to buy supplies prior to the January 29th, 2019 attack. Abimbola explained that Jussie even instructed them on how to throw fake punches. Jussie allegedly told the brothers to punch "but not too hard", and once he was on the ground was on the ground, Osundairo said Smollett said he should give Smollett “a bruise” and “give him a noogie” or rub his knuckles hard on Smollett's head.

Osundairo also said that a few days before the attack, Smollett showed him hate mail he said he received at a FOX owned TV studio. Jurors viewed the note, which included a drawing of a person hanging by a noose, with a gun pointed at the stick figure.

A few days later, he said, Smollett sent him a text message asking to meet up “on the low,” which he took to mean a private meeting about something secret. Osundairo said it was at that meeting that Smollett first asked him “to beat him up” and asked if his brother could help.

“I was confused, I look puzzled” as Smollett “explained he wanted me to fake beat him up,” Osundairo told attendees of the trial.

Osundairo continued by saying that prior to the staged attack, Smollett drove the brothers to the spot where it would occur. Where they decided the brothers should throw bleach on Smollett rather than the original plan to use gasoline. Osundairo also said Smollett said a camera in the area would record the attack. Smollett said he wanted to use the recording for media purposes. Osundairo also revealed, the morning after the attack, Smollett gave him a check for $3,500 and wrote on it that it was for a nutrition and workout program. Osundairo said the money was both for the program and for helping to stage the attack.

Jussie Smollett is now 39 years of age. He is being charged with six counts of felony disorderly conduct for making false police reports. Each count is attributed for each time he made a report to three different officers. These class 4 felony charges have the weight of a prison sentence up to three years, yet some legal experts believe if Smollett is convicted he likely would be placed on probation and be ordered to perform community service.

One of the officers that Jussie Smollett reported to, Detective Kimberly Murray, interviewed Smollett the morning of the attack. She said Smollett told her that he had received a threatening phone call days earlier, but he refused to hand over his cellphone. Which the detective said could help the police piece together a timeline. She said Smollett also wouldn’t consent to giving medical records or a DNA swab.

The police and prosecution also have records of damning evidence of text messages. Detective Michael Thesis took the stand Tuesday to testify against Smollett. He revealed that Smollett sent text messages to Abimbola Osundairo that said, “I know 1000%. You and your brother did nothing wrong...I am making this statement so everyone else knows...Please hit me when they let you go. I am behind you fully.”

The detective also explained that over twenty four officers and detectives devoted more than 3,000 hours to investigate, combing through more than 1,500 hours of surveillance video. Video that was collected from police POD cameras, businesses and residential homes that allowed detectives to track the movements of the brothers Osundairos and Smollett.

Abimbola and Jussie met on the set of Lee Daniel and Danny Strong's hit TV show "Empire". Abimbola was a stand-in actor for the show. He testified that he felt indebted to Jussie for helping him with his acting career. The trial testimonies will continue throughout the month and next year, expect more revealing information soon.
